Donated: Non-cash ContributionsThe Donated computer application is designed to assist with the compilation of the proper documentation to substantiate charitable contributions.

It's a good idea to dispose of as many un-needed items as possible before you move. Many Charities will accept used furniture, and used office products for resale purposes.

This application is designed to help donors track the value of property (other than cash) that is given to qualified organizations. It also produces a worksheet with information you must have to support the charitable contribution deduction you claim on your return. This application does not figure the value amount of your deduction for charitable contributions. See IRS Publication 526, Charitable Contributions, for this information.

A charitable contribution is a donation or gift to, or for the use of, a qualified organization. It is voluntary and is made without getting, or expecting to get, anything of equal value. IRS Publication 526 explains how to claim a deduction for your charitable contributions. It discusses organizations that are qualified to receive deductible charitable contributions, the types of contributions you can deduct, how much you can deduct, what records to keep, and how to report charitable contributions.

Qualified organizations include nonprofit groups that are religious, charitable, educational, scientific, or literary in purpose, or that work to prevent cruelty to children or animals. You will find descriptions of these organizations under Organizations That Qualify To Receive Deductible Contributions in IRS Publication 526. Form 1040 is required to deduct a charitable contribution. You must file Form 1040 and itemize deductions on Schedule A. The amount of your deduction may be limited if certain rules and limits explained in IRS Publication 526 apply to you.
